BR-324 closure near Salvador leads to major traffic jam; partial reopening for Feira de Santana traffic

On Tuesday, a section of the federal highway BR-324 near Simões Filho, just outside Salvador, collapsed due to a structural failure of an old drain, prompting the Federal Highway Police to close the lane heading toward Feira de Santana. The failure caused vehicles to queue for up to an hour, with travel times from Salvador to Feira de Santana extending to more than two hours.

By the evening, the direction toward Feira de Santana was reopened, while the opposite lane toward Salvador remained closed for emergency repairs by the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT). DNIT reported the leak in the pipe had been fixed and work on rebuilding the road base and resurfacing would continue for up to 48 hours. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes such as BA-526.
