BR-373 highway collision kills 23 in Paraná bus accident

A head-on collision on the BR-373 highway in Ipiranga, Paraná, resulted in the deaths of 23 people, including 13 women, eight men, and two children. The accident involved a micro-bus operated by the Municipal Health Department of Imbituva, which was transporting patients and companions to specialized medical treatments in the Curitiba metropolitan area.

Four survivors, including a 6-year-old child, have been discharged from the hospital, while one 63-year-old man remains in intensive care. Preliminary forensic reports indicate the truck involved was in the opposite lane at the time of impact, which forced the bus onto the shoulder.

The Civil Police of Paraná (PCPR) has launched an investigation to determine the exact causes, including whether driver fatigue or an attempt to avoid the truck played a role. Investigators are currently reviewing commercial surveillance footage and scheduled to interview witnesses to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
