BR Fernsehen has announced an extensive themed programming schedule for September 19 to mark the opening of the 191st Munich Oktoberfest. The broadcast day includes various historical and documentary segments.

The lineup features archival footage from 1997 detailing the construction of rides and tents, as well as a 2022 retrospective titled ‘BR Retro – Wiesn-Extra’ examining how the festival and its media coverage have evolved. Other programming includes a 2024 documentary on the ten-week setup process and a 2026 undercover quiz show.

The centerpiece of the day is a two-and-a-half-hour live broadcast of ‘O'zapft is!’ from Munich, which will also be aired simultaneously on Das Erste.
