Brad Bird pushes Netflix for theatrical release of animated film “Ray Gunn”

Director Brad Bird, known for The Iron Giant and The Incredibles, is urging Netflix to give his upcoming animated feature Ray Gunn a theatrical run. Speaking to Polygon at the Annecy Festival, Bird said, “I’m talking. I don’t know whether they’re listening,” and urged viewers to “find the biggest screen you can.” The film, starring Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson, is slated to debut on Netflix on December 18, after strong test‑screenings. Bird also highlighted a rating dispute, with Netflix favoring a PG rating while he believes the film fits PG‑13.

Netflix has traditionally limited theatrical releases to select titles, and no firm decision has been announced for Ray Gunn.
