Brad Bird’s ‘Ray Gunn’ to premiere on Netflix in December 2026 FAST-MOVING

Director Brad Bird is set to release his long-gestating animated sci-fi noir, ‘Ray Gunn’, on Netflix on December 18, 2026. Produced in collaboration with Skydance Animation, the project has been in development for over 30 years.

Set in the futuristic city of Metropia—viewed through a 1939 lens—the film follows Raymond Gunn (voiced by Sam Rockwell), a private investigator caught up in a case involving murder and a multimedia star named Venus Nova (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). The voice cast also includes Tom Waits, Matt Berry, Patton Oswalt, and Bobby Cannavale.

The film will have its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October. Additionally, Netflix has announced a limited 70mm theatrical release in select U.S. cities starting December 4, 2026, to support an awards season push.
