Brad Gerstner proposes expanding Trump Accounts to Americans under 40
Brad Gerstner, founder and CEO of Altimeter Capital, is advocating for the expansion of Trump Accounts to include all U.S. citizens under the age of 40. Currently, these tax-advantaged investment accounts are available to Americans under 18, with children born between 2025 and 2028 receiving a $1,000 federal seed contribution. Upon turning 18, these accounts transition into traditional individual retirement accounts (IRAs).
Gerstner noted that expanding the program would require new legislation rather than mere regulatory changes. His proposal suggests that instead of direct government deposits for adults, the accounts could serve as a vehicle for contributions from employers, philanthropists, and corporations.
High-profile supporters of the initiative include Elon Musk, who has pledged to give one share of SpaceX stock to every American child through the accounts, as well as Michael and Susan Dell, Ray Dalio, and SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell. While President Trump indicated the administration is exploring alternatives for expanding the program to adults, he described the initiative as one of the most successful government programs to date.
