Brad Pitt's children Zahara and Maddox file petitions to drop Pitt surname
Zahara Jolie‑Pitt, 21, and her brother Maddox, 24, have each filed petitions in the Los Angeles Superior Court to remove "Pitt" from their legal surnames, seeking to be known simply as Zahara Marley Jolie and Maddox Jolie. The requests were submitted electronically last month and published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal as required by California law. If no objections are lodged, a judge is expected to rule on Maddox’s petition by mid‑September and on Zahara’s by the end of the month.
The filings are the latest development in the long‑running legal disputes surrounding Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce and the split of their six children’s family name. Earlier in 2024, siblings Shiloh and Vivienne also changed or altered their surnames, prompting media attention but no public comment from Pitt’s representatives.
