Bradford College opens £19.3m automotive engineering facility

Bradford College has officially opened Junction Mills, a new £19.3 million facility on Thornton Road designed to train students in automotive and digital engineering. The four-storey building was constructed on the site of a former textile mill and is expected to support up to 650 students.

The project was funded by £17.8 million from the Department for Education’s Further Education Capital Transformation Fund, supplemented by a £1.5 million contribution from the college. Built by Morgan Sindall Construction, the facility includes collaboration classrooms, IT labs, and three large workshops.

Training capabilities focus on modern technologies, including electric and hybrid vehicles, with dedicated EV bays and a hydrogen fuel cell car. The site is equipped with specialist tools such as vehicle lifts for MOT testing, roller brake testing systems, and emissions analysers to prepare students for future-facing careers in West Yorkshire.
