Bradley Barcola's contract saga and other Ligue 1 players entering final season

Eleven Ligue 1 players have entered the final year of their contracts for the 2026‑2027 season, with clubs such as Paris Saint‑Germain, Olympique de Marseille, Stade Rennais, Olympique Lyonnais, OGC Nice and RC Strasbourg facing decisions on extensions, sales or retirements.

One of the most high‑profile cases is winger Bradley Barcola, whose PSG contract runs until June 2028. Barcola has signaled he will not renew and has given a principle agreement to Liverpool. Transfer fee estimates vary widely, from €117 million (The Athletic) to €130 million and up to €170 million demanded by PSG. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have shown interest, while PSG have bolstered their squad with the €50 million signing of Maghnes Akliouche, giving them flexibility in the upcoming market.

The situation highlights the shrinking value of players who refuse extensions as the contract deadline approaches, and it will shape the summer transfer window for French clubs and potential buyers abroad.
