Brady Rogers elected to Kelowna City Council via satirical campaign

Brady Rogers, a 33-year-old engineer and local business owner, has secured a seat on the Kelowna City Council in British Columbia, Canada, following a highly unconventional election campaign.

Rogers utilized a strategy centered on satire and blunt honesty, using campaign posters with slogans such as “I barely want to do this,” “Just trying to pay my rent,” and “Okay, I’ll do it.” His official website featured a questionnaire where he admitted to having no prior political experience or specific interest in politics. This approach went viral on social media, distinguishing him from traditional candidates.

In the municipal elections held on October 17, Rogers placed fourth among 37 candidates competing for eight available seats, receiving 12,635 votes. Despite the humorous nature of his campaign, Rogers stated he intends to take his new responsibilities seriously. His professional background includes four years as a robotic automation engineer and running a business focused on plastic waste recycling. He has pledged to address issues including housing access, public transportation, small business challenges, and homelessness.
