Brady Rogers wins Kelowna City Council seat with unconventional campaign

Brady Rogers, a 33-year-old engineer and entrepreneur, has won a seat on the Kelowna City Council in British Columbia following a highly unconventional municipal election. Rogers secured fourth place among eight elected councillors, receiving 12,635 votes and defeating 33 other candidates.

His campaign was defined by blunt, self-deprecating humor. On his campaign website and through various signs, Rogers admitted he did not enjoy politics, did not know what he was doing, and was not traditionally qualified. Slogans such as ‘I barely want to do this’ and ‘How hard could it be?’ gained significant traction on social media, including a post that garnered over 100,000 views.

Despite the humorous messaging, Rogers defended his candidacy by stating that politicians should be able to admit they do not have all the answers. He noted that while he is not a career politician, his professional background in robotic automation engineering provides relevant experience for the role.
