Portuguese clubs dominate pre‑season friendlies in July 2026

On 18 July 2026 Sporting Braga played a pre‑season friendly against Spanish side Celta de Vigo at the Pedreira stadium. The match ended 2‑2, with Vítor Carvalho and Jónatas scoring for Braga, Hugo González giving Celta the lead and Carlos Domínguez equalising in stoppage time.

Other Portuguese sides recorded victories. Vitória Sport Clube beat FC Penafiel 5‑0, with goals from João Mendes, an own‑goal, Alioune Ndoye, Oumar Camara and Beni. V. Guimarães defeated Académica 2‑0, goals coming from 17‑year‑old Zeega and 19‑year‑old Costinha.

Académico de Viseu travelled to Spain and produced a dominant win over Al Fateh, described as a “goleia,” indicating a comfortable margin. The club’s pre‑season programme also includes training sessions in Cádiz.

All four clubs are using these matches to prepare for the 2026‑27 Portuguese league season, which begins on 9 August 2026.
