Braga inaugurates Portugal's largest PRR-funded student residence

The Confiança University Residence, the largest student housing facility in Portugal funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), is being inaugurated this Thursday in Braga. The project involved an investment of over 29 million euros and provides 786 beds.

The facility was created through the rehabilitation of the former Confiança Soap and Perfume Factory, combining the restored historic building with a new wing. The complex offers a variety of accommodations, including single and double rooms, studios, and apartments with kitchenettes, as well as units adapted for people with reduced mobility. Common areas include study rooms, kitchens, dining areas, laundry facilities, and social spaces.

The inauguration ceremony will include the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, alongside the Mayor of Braga, João Rodrigues, and the Rector of the University of Minho, Pedro Arezes. The project, built by Grupo Casais, aims to increase the availability of affordable housing for higher education students, particularly those facing economic difficulties. Most available spots are already filled, and the first students have begun moving in.
