Bragado officials demand urgent repairs for Route 46 bridge

Legislators in Buenos Aires province are calling for urgent intervention regarding the deteriorating state of a bridge on Provincial Route 46, located over the Mercante Canal in Bragado.

Councilman Jorge Castillo has proposed a communication project requesting an integral technical evaluation from the Provincial Road Directorate. This follows two accidents in December 2025 and May 2026 where vehicles fell from the roadway. Castillo’s proposal seeks to examine safety barriers, containment systems, signage, and visibility, while determining if the infrastructure requires repair or total replacement.

Provincial Deputy Valentín Miranda has also demanded action, citing concerns from local producers and residents. Miranda noted that the bridge is strategic for traffic between Bragado and Junín and is vital for regional water drainage. He reported asphalt undermining, damaged culverts, and cracks that have only received provisional repairs.

Miranda highlighted that a 2021 tender for the bridge's reconstruction, valued at over 170 million pesos, was canceled and never executed. He warned that repairs must be conducted while water levels in the canal are low to prevent issues during heavy rains, and intends to file a formal request for information in the provincial Chamber of Deputies.
