A murder case has been filed against seven individuals, including the executive director of the ‘Proyas’ drug rehabilitation and rehabilitation center in Brahmanbaria, following the death of a patient named Md. Forkan Mia.
The victim's father, Abdur Rashid, filed the application in the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court. The primary accused is the center's founder and executive director, Md. Ikramul Haque, also known as Rubel. Other named individuals include director Promod Kumar Barman and several associates.
According to reports, Forkan, a 29-year-old former expatriate from Qatar, died following allegations of being beaten at the facility on August 18. Following the incident, local residents reportedly vandalized the center, leading to the escape of approximately 40 patients. An inspection by local administration later revealed that the center was operating without a doctor present.
