BrahMos Aerospace targets 2027-28 for next-generation missile prototype

BrahMos Aerospace CEO and Managing Director Dr. Jaiteerth Joshi announced that the company expects to develop the first prototype of the next-generation BrahMos-NG missile by 2027 or 2028. The new system is intended to be a smaller, lighter, and more versatile evolution of the current missile family, designed for enhanced deployment flexibility across various platforms.

The BrahMos-NG is expected to feature increased indigenous content, advanced materials, and new technologies. Development is planned to begin with an airborne configuration. Dr. Joshi noted growing international interest in the air-launched version of the missile, specifically from countries that operate Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft.

Additionally, Dr. Joshi highlighted the missile's performance during ‘Operation Sindoor’, stating that its deployment in active warfare demonstrated its capabilities in high-intensity, multi-domain combat. This operational success is viewed as a driver for India's defense export aspirations, which have seen significant annual growth.
