Braiden Bell appeals Portland Trail Blazers firing over teenage posts
Braiden Bell, the recently appointed play-by-play announcer for the Portland Trail Blazers, is formally requesting a second chance from the NBA franchise following his dismissal. Bell was hired last week but was terminated shortly after reports surfaced regarding racist and misogynistic social media posts he made as a teenager.
In a statement released through his legal counsel, Bell expressed deep regret, noting that the posts were written 14 years ago when he was 15 years old and do not reflect his current character. His lawyer, Arnie Herz, argued that Bell’s past words should not define his entire life, emphasizing that Bell is not seeking to excuse his conduct but rather to demonstrate personal growth.
The Portland Trail Blazers previously stated they have “zero tolerance for racist, sexist, or harmful comments” and maintained that the historic posts violated team and league policies. While the franchise has wished Bell well, they have not indicated any intention to reverse the decision, standing by their initial statement.
