Braille accessibility expands for educational projects in Brazil
Accessibility for visually impaired individuals is expanding through new Braille adaptations of educational materials in Brazil. In Goiânia, the Maria da Penha nas Escolas project has released a Braille version of its comic book, available at the José Álvares de Azevedo Braille Library. The project uses children's literature to teach the history of Maria da Penha and the legal rights associated with her name, aiming to prevent gender-based violence among children aged 10 and older.
Separately, a 5th-grade student at the Jayme Veríssimo de Campos Júnior Municipal School has demonstrated significant academic progress through the use of the Braille system. The student, Gabriel Giotto Melin Filho, has achieved literacy and increased autonomy in classroom activities, a development credited to the support of teachers and family.
