Braintree shooting investigation: Teen arrested in Essex

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and released on bail until November 30 following a shooting in Braintree's Market Place on Monday, August 31. The incident involved a firearm discharge that injured three people, two of whom are teenage boys receiving treatment for non-life-threatening facial and upper body injuries.

Chief Superintendent Rob Kirby stated that investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack rather than a random act, potentially linked to drug sales. He noted that the incident was directed from one specific group toward another and indicated there is no ongoing threat to the general public.

Police are continuing investigations to identify four young men or teenage boys seen fleeing the scene toward the local train station. An increased police presence is expected in the town centre for several days.
