Brake failures rank as fourth most common serious defect in Spanish vehicle inspections

Brake systems remain a critical maintenance issue in Spain, ranking as the fourth most common cause of serious defects during technical vehicle inspections (ITV) in 2024, accounting for 11.4% of total defects. According to data from AECA-ITV and the DGT, worn braking systems can increase stopping distances by up to 25%.

Experts emphasize that preventive maintenance is essential for safety and to avoid mandatory repairs required to pass inspections. Common issues include excessive wear on pads and discs, braking imbalances, leaks, or deteriorated brake fluid. Regular workshop checks are recommended to anticipate problems before they impact driving safety.
