Brakel Annentage festival ends, police report 29 incidents and one teen injured

The annual Annentage folk festival in Brakel, North Rhine‑Westphalia, concluded with the Höxter district police praising the overall calm atmosphere despite high visitor numbers. A joint security concept with local authorities was deemed effective, and police recorded 29 deployments related to the event, including typical assault and assistance calls.

A more serious episode occurred on the night of 2 August around 02:20 h on Bahnhofstraße. Several individuals urinated on the front garden of a 48‑year‑old resident, leading to a verbal clash. The resident then brandished an air‑rifle and fired at the group, lightly wounding a 17‑year‑old boy. Officers secured the weapon and opened a criminal investigation for dangerous bodily injury against the 48‑year‑old. The teenager received on‑site medical care and was released.

Police thanked the deployed forces, partner agencies and festival visitors for their responsible behaviour, which helped ensure a largely peaceful celebration.
