Brampton to host replica of Ponta Delgada City Gates

Brampton, Canada, is set to host a replica of the ‘Portas da Cidade’ (City Gates) of Ponta Delgada, with the inauguration scheduled for September. This project follows the precedent set by an existing replica in Fall River, United States.

The announcement was made during a ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Fall River monument, presided over by the President of the Azores Government, José Manuel Bolieiro. During the event, Bolieiro emphasized the deep historical ties between the Azores and North America, highlighting the role of the Azorean diaspora in projecting the region's identity globally.

Bolieiro noted that the monument serves as more than a physical reproduction, acting as a symbol of the courage and hope of generations of Azoreans who migrated across the Atlantic to build new lives and contribute to their host communities.
