Brancaleone hosts international sculpture symposium

Seven international sculptors are gathering in Brancaleone, located on the Costa dei Gelsomini, for the ‘Mega Galmata’ symposium. From September 26 to October 3, the artists will work in an open-air atelier overlooking the Ionian Sea, using Lecce stone to create monumental sculptures that connect the ancient history of Magna Graecia with contemporary art.

The participating artists represent Armenia, Georgia, Greece, India, Iran, Poland, and Italy. Notable participants include technical director Vighen Avetis, Solmaz Vilkachi, Viktor Kopacz, Archil Didishvili, Kanta Kishore Moharana, Christos Tsoumplekas, and Silvio Viola. The finished works are scheduled to be unveiled to the public on October 3.

Beyond the creation of sculptures, the project includes a cultural program featuring ‘Kleos Lectiones’—eight sessions dedicated to art history and contemporary themes. The event also offers educational opportunities, including school-to-work training for youth, public ceramics courses, and jewelry sculpture workshops.
