Brandel Chamblee discusses Phil Mickelson and golf betting risks

Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee has addressed two major concerns facing the sport: the fallout from the LIV Golf split and the increasing influence of sports betting.

Regarding Phil Mickelson, Chamblee suggested that the six-time major champion could potentially find a path to redemption within the golf community. Chamblee noted that while Mickelson’s move to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf in 2022 damaged his reputation, an apology acknowledging the harm caused to the sport could lead to a reconciliation with the wider golf world.

Separately, Chamblee warned of the ‘dangerous’ shift caused by golf’s growing integration with gambling. He expressed concern that aligning the sport with predictive betting could erode the traditional etiquette and respectful culture of golf. He cautioned that fans might begin watching with the intent to see players fail if they have bet against them, fundamentally altering the nature of the game.
