Brandon Aiyuk draws NFL backlash after controversial dog‑video and doubtful future

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk sparked fresh criticism on social media after posting an Instagram story that showed him feeding his dogs raw chicken and sardines, then appearing to nudge one dog’s neck and kick the animal’s head. The video, posted on July 13, prompted condemnations and warnings that the act could be prosecuted under animal‑cruelty laws in all 50 states.

Former NFL receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh, appearing on the “Speakeasy” show on July 12, said he is “almost certain” Aiyuk will not join the Washington Commanders and questioned whether the player is “talking his way out of the league.” Analysts noted Aiyuk missed the entire 2025 season with a torn ACL and MCL and that his recent behavior could jeopardize his NFL career.

Aiyuk’s on‑field record includes 294 receptions for 4,305 yards and 27 touchdowns over four seasons with the 49ers. The combined controversies have intensified scrutiny of his future in professional football.
