Brandon Bussi brings Stanley Cup to Long Island hometown celebration
Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Brandon Bussi brought the Stanley Cup to his hometown on Long Island for a large-scale celebration. Thousands of fans gathered at The Rinx in Hauppauge, the facility where Bussi first began his hockey training as a child.
During the event, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine declared the day ‘Brandon Bussi Day,’ and the president of the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame named him the inaugural person of the year. Bussi, a native of Sound Beach, participated in a walk on the ice with the trophy, a request he made to connect with the site of his early hockey career.
The celebration drew a diverse crowd of supporters, including fans of rival teams such as the Islanders and Rangers. Due to the high turnout, Bussi walked the trophy down a block to ensure fans waiting in line had the opportunity to see it.
