Brandon Clarke's cause of death ruled accidental overdose

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has identified the cause of death for NBA player Brandon Clarke as an accidental overdose involving heroin and cocaine. The 29-year-old Memphis Grizzlies forward was found deceased at a Los Angeles residence on May 11.

Regarding his professional contract, reports indicate that the final $12.5 million of Clarke’s deal with the Grizzlies is expected to be paid in full to his estate through life insurance. While earlier reports suggested the contract termination might prevent the payout, sources clarify that the Grizzlies had negotiated a structure where the team reimbursed the cost of a life insurance policy specifically designed to protect the remaining value of his contract in the event of his death.
