Brandon Figueroa stripped of WBA title after weight miss

Brandon Figueroa has been stripped of his WBA featherweight title after failing to make weight for his scheduled bout against Tomoki Kameda in Las Vegas. Figueroa weighed in at 127.4 pounds, exceeding the 126-pound divisional limit by 1.4 pounds.

Because Kameda successfully made weight, he is now the only fighter eligible to claim the WBA featherweight championship. If Figueroa wins the match, the title will remain vacant.

Analysts suggest this weight miss significantly diminishes Figueroa’s leverage for a future high-profile matchup against Naoya Inoue, as he no longer holds the championship belt that would serve as a primary incentive for Inoue to move up in weight. Additionally, reports indicate Figueroa may have struggled with a hamstring injury during his training camp, which may have contributed to the weight issue.
