Brandon Hudspeth appointed as new U.S. Consul General in Lagos
Brandon Hudspeth has arrived in Lagos to begin a three-year tenure as the new U.S. Consul General. A career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, Hudspeth will serve as the senior U.S. government representative across 17 states in southern Nigeria.
Hudspeth succeeds Rick Swart, who retired from the U.S. Foreign Service in July 2026. This marks Hudspeth’s second assignment in Lagos; he previously served as the Consulate’s Political-Economic Section Chief between 2020 and 2022. His recent experience includes serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia.
In his new role, Hudspeth aims to strengthen the U.S.-Nigeria partnership by expanding trade and investment, driving innovation, and deepening cooperation within the technology and creative industries. His diplomatic background includes assignments in the Philippines, Mali, Cuba, and Afghanistan.
