Brandon Hurst builds plant business from Facebook Marketplace sales

After losing his job during the pandemic in 2020, Los Angeles resident Brandon Hurst transformed a simple attempt to earn money into a major business. What began as selling a single pink plant on Facebook Marketplace grew rapidly due to high online demand.

Hurst, known online as ‘Brandon The Plant Guy,’ expanded his operations by sharing plant care videos on social media. His TikTok presence gained millions of followers, leading to the use of TikTok Shop in 2023. During his first live stream, he sold 250 plants in just three hours, far exceeding his initial expectation of 30. His business has since moved to a greenhouse and now employs staff to manage approximately 1,000 orders per day.
