Brandon McCoy Jr. to miss Michigan season with torn ACL

Michigan Wolverines freshman guard Brandon McCoy Jr. will miss the entire 2026-27 season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee. The injury occurred during the team’s final game of its European tour against KK Mega Superbet in Montenegro.

McCoy, a former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, was expected to play a significant role in the starting lineup under new head coach Mike Boynton. During the team's recent tour, McCoy averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 steals per game across appearances in Lithuania and Montenegro.

The loss of the former top-20 recruit forces Michigan to rely on increased roster depth. Potential contributors to the backcourt include Ricky Liburd and Columbia transfer Kenny Noland. McCoy may choose to redshirt the season to preserve eligibility, though his standing in 2027 NBA Draft projections may be affected by the injury.
