Brandon Woodruff headed to 15‑day IL with shoulder inflammation

Milwaukee right‑hander Brandon Woodruff left his July 4 start against the Arizona Diamondbacks early after his fastball velocity dropped sharply, a sign of recurring shoulder inflammation. The 33‑year‑old allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings before exiting in the fourth inning. The Brewers placed him on the 15‑day injured list and recalled left‑hander Drew Rom from Triple‑A Nashville.

Woodruff, a two‑time All‑Star, has a 2‑2 record with a 2.98 ERA this season. He previously missed two months on the injured list following surgery to repair a cyst in his right shoulder and has dealt with “dead‑arm” symptoms since the 2023 season. After the game he said, “It gets frustrating … I’m in a good spot mentally,” while manager Pat Murphy called him “a huge part of our organization.”

The loss came as the Brewers fell 4‑3 to the Diamondbacks at Chase Field, leaving them 54‑33 and leading the NL Central. The injury adds uncertainty to Milwaukee’s rotation as it seeks to maintain its position in the tightly contested division.
