AI agents drive shift in e-commerce marketing strategies
Retailers and brands are shifting marketing strategies to accommodate the rise of AI agents capable of making purchases on behalf of consumers. As companies like Meta and OpenAI develop shopping-capable chatbots, businesses are moving away from traditional emotional advertising toward a model based on mathematical logic and data accessibility.
According to Adobe, traffic to US retail sites from AI sources grew by 393% in 2026. Research from Morgan Stanley suggests that by 2030, agent-influenced spending could account for up to 20% of total US e-commerce, representing approximately $385 billion. To remain visible, brands are investing in making their product data easily readable and secure for automated agents, as failing to adapt may result in products being excluded from AI-driven recommendations.
