Branko Šubić to run 210 km ultramarathon across Croatia in early August

Sixty‑four‑year‑old Branko Šubić will complete a five‑day, 210 km ultramarathon from Žabnik, the northernmost settlement in Croatia near the Slovenian border, to his hometown of Petrinja. The run, scheduled for early August, ends on 6 August, coinciding with Petrinja’s Liberation Day and the city’s Veterans Day.

The project, begun in 2016, aims to honour fallen and missing Croatian war veterans and to preserve the memory of the Homeland War through sport. Over the past decade Šubić has covered more than 1,460 km across the country, visiting every corner from Ilok in the east to Savudrija in the west and Prevlaka in the south. The final stretch will pass through four counties, the capital Zagreb, nine towns and over 30 villages, with planned stops at the Oltar Domovine on Medvedgrad and the Monument to the Homeland on Trg Stjepana Radića. The initiative has received backing from President Zoran Milanović, the Croatian Olympic Committee, and numerous sports clubs and athletes.
