Brantner green solutions has put into operation Glasy, the world’s first plant that recovers glass from municipal waste‑incineration ash with a purity of 99.9999 %. The facility, located in Hohenruppersdorf, Lower Austria, began operating in November 2025 and returns the reclaimed glass to the packaging‑glass industry as a high‑grade secondary raw material.

The company frames the plant as a step toward a broader circular‑economy transformation that seeks to reintegrate previously unusable material streams into the economy. Brantner emphasizes the need for supportive legal frameworks, research funding and market incentives to scale such technologies.

At the same time, the German plastics sector is confronting similar pressures.
