Brașov City Council Allocates Extra Funds to Emergency Service for Bear Interventions
The Brașov City Council approved a budget amendment that adds 245,300 lei to the municipal "Bunuri și servicii" chapter for the Serviciul Voluntar pentru Situații de Urgență (SVSU). The additional funds will cover utilities, fuel for the service’s intervention vehicles, equipment maintenance, and the costs associated with emergency operations.
Since early spring, SVSU teams have been repeatedly called to address brown bear incidents in residential areas, having shot or euthanized 12 bears deemed a danger to people and property. The rising frequency of these interventions has increased expenses for fuel, equipment, and personnel, prompting the council to allocate extra resources to ensure the service can continue operating effectively.
The supplemental budget also aims to maintain SVSU’s regular operational capacity for other emergencies, ensuring the service can meet its ongoing obligations to the community.
