A farmer in Brașov County, Romania, has been detained by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) for allegedly attempting to fraudulently obtain European Union and national funds. The individual, identified by the initials P. A., is accused of submitting false documents and declarations to the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) between May and September 2026.
Investigators claim the farmer declared a total of 429 sheep and 55 goats to qualify for financial support. However, on-site inspections conducted in September 2026 revealed the farm actually held only 151 sheep and no goats. This discrepancy accounts for 333 non-existent animals.
The attempt to secure the funds was interrupted following searches and field investigations. The suspect faces charges regarding the attempted use of false or incomplete documents to unlawfully obtain funds and is expected to be presented to the Brașov Tribunal with a proposal for 30 days of preventive arrest.
