Brașov officials consider expanding free public transport to weekends

Local authorities in the Brașov region are discussing the expansion of the “Green Friday” program, which currently offers free public transport on Fridays, into a full “Green Weekend” initiative.

In Brașov, Mayor George Scripcaru has expressed support for the proposal to include Saturdays and Sundays, though he noted that a formal budgetary impact analysis is required before implementation. The proposal also includes increasing bus frequency during the weekend to match weekday schedules.

The initiative is gaining momentum in neighboring areas as well. The Mayor of Vulcan, Marius Adrian Doda, has officially requested the Metropolitan Association for Sustainable Public Transport Development Brașov to introduce free travel on line 120 from Friday through Sunday. The goal of these measures is to reduce road traffic and pollution while supporting citizens through free weekend travel. Final implementation in both locations remains subject to administrative procedures and local council approvals.
