Brașov schools join central heating system as Bucharest carries out district‑heat upgrades

Mayor George Scripcaru of Brașov met with school principals to discuss connecting kindergartens and schools to the city’s central district‑heat network. The move is expected to cut heating and hot‑water costs by about 20% for the institutions. Scripcaru said, “By connecting these schools we reduce utility costs and can redirect the savings to education.” The connection will be completed before the new school year, supported by two non‑reimbursable contracts worth over 60 million lei for the broader heating‑system modernisation programme.

In Bucharest, the municipal heating company Termoenergetica announced works on the district‑heat network from 13 July to 2 August. The upgrades, aimed at improving safety and efficiency, will temporarily suspend hot‑water supply to roughly 3 000 apartment blocks across sectors 1, 3, 5 and other areas, affecting more than 200 000 residents. Supplies will be restored gradually as sections are completed, and the company warned residents of possible inconvenience while emphasizing the long‑term benefits of the modernisation.
