Romania news: environmental leadership, infrastructure audits, and tourism
In Romania, Natalia Intotero has assumed her mandate as the Minister of Environment, Waters, and Forests. Following the handover from former minister Diana Buzoianu, Intotero has begun meeting with ministry staff to establish priorities, including the acceleration of investments, the adoption of normative acts, and the effective utilization of European funds.
In Brașov, restoration work is set to begin on the courtyard of the Black Church (Biserica Neagră). Funded by the European Union through the Centru Region Program, this project aims to restore the historical monument to a high standard, following previous restoration efforts at St. Nicholas Church and the Postăvarului Bastion.
Meanwhile, an audit by the Prahova Court of Accounts has identified approximately 2,400,000 lei in unjustified payments related to road construction projects for the Mizil and Azuga-Bușteni bypasses. The audit noted limitations due to ongoing criminal investigations by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) regarding certain transactions.
On a cultural note, the Bukovina region in northern Romania has been named the world’s top underrated destination for 2027 by Time Out magazine. The region is recognized for its UNESCO-protected painted monasteries, traditional folk art, and the Via Transilvanica pilgrimage route.
