Brașov to modernize 208 public transport stations via R.I.D.E. project
The municipality of Brașov has signed a financing contract for the R.I.D.E. project (Smart Refuges for Ecomobility Development), aimed at modernizing 208 public transport stations. Funded through the ‘Regiunea Centru’ 2021–2027 program, the initiative involves an investment of 17.5 million lei from European funds.
The project will implement three distinct station models tailored to different urban zones. In the central historic area (Ring 1), 20 stations will feature designs adapted to the city's tourist and historical character. Ring 2 will include 89 modern stations located in areas connecting neighborhoods, while Ring 3 will consist of 99 stations optimized for residential and suburban mobility flows.
New facilities will include real-time digital information systems, LED lighting, video surveillance, Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports. To promote energy efficiency, the stations will utilize photovoltaic panels and battery systems. Additionally, the upgrades will focus on accessibility for persons with reduced mobility and support multimodal transport by facilitating connections with bicycles and scooters.
