Brasil Bitcoin faces data breach allegations and corporate shifts

The Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange Brasil Bitcoin is facing simultaneous challenges regarding corporate governance and cybersecurity. A new entity, Brasil 8, has emerged sharing the same São Paulo address as Brasil Bitcoin and has taken over its internet domain. This development occurs amid internal disputes among the exchange's leadership and the ongoing requirement for crypto firms to seek formal authorization from the Banco Central do Brasil.

Separately, Brasil Bitcoin is investigating allegations of a massive data breach. A cybercriminal on a Dark Web forum claims to possess the personal and transaction data of approximately 657,000 Brazilian investors, including names, CPF numbers, emails, and transaction histories. The perpetrator has demanded a ransom to prevent the release of the information.

In response, Brasil Bitcoin stated that its technical team is verifying the authenticity and extent of the alleged leak. The company clarified that the reported data does not include passwords or authentication credentials, and no customer funds have been accessed. The exchange noted that if a breach is confirmed, national authorities will be notified in accordance with data protection laws.
