Brasil Fora da Caverna recovers Instagram account after Meta suspension

The progressive news outlet Brasil Fora da Caverna (BFC) has recovered its Instagram account after Meta suspended the profile without prior notice. The suspension occurred on a Friday night, shortly after the account surpassed 1.1 million followers and experienced rapid growth of over 60,000 followers in the preceding 30 days.

BFC leadership characterized the sudden removal as an act of censorship and an attack on press freedom, particularly noting the timing ahead of the 2026 electoral period. While Meta did not provide an official justification for the ban, the outlet's account was reinstated following public pressure and a campaign of reports led by groups including Sleeping Giants.

Founder and content director Eduardo Betinardi noted that the platform's strategy focuses on delivering complete journalistic content directly through social media feeds. While the main account is active again, the outlet has utilized alternative profiles to maintain its reach, which includes over 200 million monthly views across various platforms.
