Brazil launches #FazAXepa campaign to reduce food waste

The #FazAXepa campaign has been launched to combat food waste in Brazil by changing how consumers perceive food that falls outside of aesthetic standards. The initiative is part of the Brasil Sem Desperdício program, a collaboration between WWF-Brasil and the Waste & Resources Action Programme (Wrap).

The campaign highlights a significant disparity in the country: while approximately 30% of food produced in Brazil is wasted, IBGE data indicates that 55 million Brazilians face some level of food insecurity. Program leader Luiza Soares notes that waste is driven not only by logistical failures but also by cultural patterns that lead to the rejection of perfectly edible food due to appearance.

Scheduled for the month of October to coincide with World Food Day on the 16th, the campaign includes social media engagement, recipes using mature or non-standard produce, and public actions at markets and restaurants featuring actress Laila Zaid and chef Bel Coelho.
