Distrito Federal bus strike suspended after wage agreement

Bus drivers in the Distrito Federal have suspended a planned general strike following a late-night agreement reached on Sunday with bus companies and the Secretariat of Mobility. The deal was finalized hours before the strike was scheduled to begin at midnight on Monday.

The agreement includes an 8% salary increase and a 10% increase for meal vouchers and basic food baskets. Workers also sought a 12% increase in health insurance plans. João Dão, president of the union, confirmed the agreement and instructed employees to return to their usual working hours.

Prior to the settlement, the Regional Labor Court (TRT-10) had issued a provisional ruling to limit the impact of any potential strike, requiring 80% of operations to be maintained during peak hours and 50% during other periods. Governor Celina Leão praised the resolution, noting the mediation by the Secretariat of Transport and Mobility and the Attorney General's Office of the DF.
