Senado Federal suspends canine service after veterinarian's death

The Brazilian Senate has indefinitely suspended activities at its Canine Service (Secino) following the death of 36-year-old veterinarian Vitória Valle de Oliveira Pinha. Valle died after being attacked by a Belgian Malinois named Jethro on August 18.

Investigations have shifted to the Federal Police. The Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine (CRMV-DF) reported that the kennel was operating irregularly and lacked proper registration. Furthermore, a scientific article published by Valle in 2024 had previously identified the specific dog involved as exhibiting high levels of aggression, agitation, and stress-related behavioral anomalies.

The Senate stated the suspension aims to reevaluate service procedures and guidelines to ensure institutional security and prevent future tragedies.
