Brasília Film Festival opens 59th edition

The 59th Brasília Film Festival (Festival de Brasília do Cinema Brasileiro) has opened, following a period of uncertainty regarding funding from the Federal District's Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy. The event was confirmed after mobilization by audiovisual workers and social media pressure.

Actress Julia Lemmertz was honored with the Candango trophy for her body of work. The opening program featured the documentary ‘Brasília: Planejamento Urbano’ (1964) and the feature film ‘A Pele Morta’ (2026), directed by Denise Moraes and Bruno Fatumbi Torres, which explores themes of Latin American identity and indigenous territories.

During the festival, director Kleber Mendonça Filho discussed his film ‘O Agente Secreto’. He reflected on the production's international success, including its premiere at Cannes and subsequent Golden Globe wins for Wagner Moura and Best Foreign Language Film, stating he would not change any part of the film's journey.
