Brasília Governor Celina Leão Unveils Park Upgrades and Pirarucu Fishing Limits

The Government of the Federal District (GDF) completed a series of infrastructure and security improvements at the Parque Ecológico de Águas Claras. New features include a synthetic‑grass court (20 m × 35 m), an artesian‑well water system, and plans to refurbish the outdoor gym. The authority also approved the purchase of 360‑degree security cameras for four district parks and signed a technical cooperation agreement with the Brasília Botanical Garden to enhance trail conservation and environmental education.

In parallel, Governor Celina Leão signed decrees regulating the invasive pirarucu fish in Lake Paranoá. Fishing of the species is now limited to professional artisanal fishers, who must register each catch through a new app managed by the Secretariat of the Environment. The measures aim to prevent amateur fishing, monitor fish size and location, and protect the local ecosystem. About 40 professional fishers are currently registered, and recent surveys recorded only 12 pirarucu specimens in district waters.
