Brasília's cultural and political landmarks

Brasília, the planned capital of Brazil, serves as a central hub for both cultural heritage and national governance. The city's history is marked by its creation under the government of Juscelino Kubitschek to develop the country's interior.

Culturally, the city was home to the Museu das Gemas, which housed a collection of approximately 4,000 precious stones, including diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. Following a transition in 2013, this collection was donated to the University of Brasília (UnB) and is now part of the UnB Geosciences Museum.

Politically, the capital is defined by its major institutional buildings. The Palácio da Alvorada serves as the presidential residence, while the Palácio do Planalto functions as the workplace for the president. The National Congress houses the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, and the Supreme Federal Court stands as the nation's highest judicial body.
