Brasschaat to extend zebra crossings on Bredabaan for safety

The municipality of Brasschaat will extend zebra crossings at seven locations along the Bredabaan at the end of September. This initiative aims to improve pedestrian comfort and safety, particularly on the even side of the street where waiting space is currently limited.

By extending these crossings, the municipality intends to strengthen the position of pedestrians in the busy shopping district. The measure also serves as a reminder to cyclists that they must yield to pedestrians. This follows previous safety actions, such as the installation of information signs in March 2025 to encourage cyclists to adjust their speed in the center.

Simultaneously, the Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer is renewing road markings along the Bredabaan. Bart Brughmans, the alderman for Mobility and Infrastructure, stated that the adjustment provides more space for pedestrians in the crowded shopping area and reminds cyclists of pedestrian priority.
